WEALTHY WEDNESDAY: I’m broke, but I want to go on vacation
Wealthy Wednesday is usually about saving money on a vacation with the implicit understanding that you will, at some point, have to shell out a little money, whether it be for food, lodging or transportation. But what about those that don’t even have a dime in their piggy banks? Is it possible to take a vacation for absolutely free?
The folks at Verge Magazine seem to think so, offering up 15 ways to travel for not even a single penny. While some of the ways are a bit out there (work at an organic farm in another country or enter a contest — watermelon seed-spitting contest here I come!) or dangerous (hitchhiking, crewing a cruise ship — just pray you’re not on Carnival), some are insightful, like taking one of the many “budget airlines” across Europe — some of which offer tickets for as little as $30 one-way — or swapping homes.
Honestly, I haven’t tried any of these, so let me know if you have and how it’s turned out.
But wait, there’s more to this edition of Wealthy Wednesday!
I came across an interesting list of the Top 10 (mostly) international value vacations. I say “mostly” international because Portland, Ore. is on the Lonely Planet list but every other destination listed is international. Spain, Sweden and Brazil are just some of the exotic locales that cater to budget-conscious international travelers!
